Heroes of Newerth Hero Guide: Puppet Master

Although all the daemons of the Hellbourne ranks are terrifying, few deserve to be called "creepy." Yet that is the best word for the Puppet Master, whose smirks and gibbers and cackles of glee bespeak not just the specter of death, but something worse. His puppets are offenses to life -- either false things imbued with stolen life, or living things twisted to his will.

I’m not giving a big background on this hero as I’m assuming you’re an experienced player when you’re reading this. HoN garena has been operational for more than a year now I guess.  You don’t need to watch puppet shows in the Philippines to understand the basics. But anyway, this hero is a squishy early game and lacks survivability. My brother and I had a lot of discussions about the best items etc.

I’ve found a nice hero guide about Puppet master. It has all the basics. But I want to add a few stuff.


Some of my thoughts:

Shrunken head is ideal for clashes. A must item for me.

If your team is owning early, you can buy midas if you can get it in less than 19 minutes.  It’s a good investment and it give you attack speed. Not bad at all right? :p

Assassins Shroud is for a pub games. It allows you to farm but it’s rarely used in competitive plays.

If you are rich, try getting Frostwolf skull. You lack damage but you are kinda fat and really irritating because of your slow. You can try adding a damage item like Charged hammer. This will allow you to hit faster as well.

Life steal is kinda ok for survivability.

Hex is needed depending on the situation. Well, it’s always good to have extra disables 🙂

Some opts for mask of madness. This is ok in one-on-one situations.

Harkon is the best damage item for this guy.

I’m playing in HoN Garena

Hi Guys,

It has been a while. Whilst I’m busy with work and stuff, I still have time to play Hereos of Newerth Garena. I play aroun 2am to 4am GMT +8:00. Because HoN international blocked all the IPs from SEA, most of the Asian people can only play in Garena, which is kinda shabby. There’s still a lot of problems with the servers but overall, it seems fine.  Moreover, it’s no secret that internet connection sucks in third world countries if we will compare it to connections in the UK and the US. But anyway, enough of the rant. I’m still happy that I can play HoN for free. >.<

I will add more posts during my Christmas break. At the moment, my favorite hero is Kraken! What is your favorite hero?

New Hero patch – Test Client Version 0.2.56 – 58 Patch Changelogs [Fayde Patch]

HoN is indeed becoming more like dota. This new patch changed lifesteal to be an attack modifier. As a result, this will ‘weaken’ ranged hitters. Magebane won’t be much imba coz he will use abyssal skull now instead of just the normal life steal.

For me the new hero – Fayde is really unique. However, the stats look like Nerubian Asassin in DotA as well as the AoE stun and mana burn. Her ulti is like Slark’s though. So obviously, her role will be to be sneaky and kill the supporting heroes right away.

Here’s the change log:

Version 0.2.58

– Life Steal items, except for Abyssal Skull, are now exclusive attack modifiers (will not stack with Frostburn, Frostwolf’s Skull, etc)
– Fixed an issue where the loading race number carries over to the next game, it should be reset properly each match now
– Fixed an issue where players who tried to add friends during the first few days of open beta experienced issues trying to request new friends got a message indicating they had already requested them and needed to wait. They should no longer need to wait any longer than 60 seconds to re-request their a friend
– Fixed an issue where certain players would always be flagged with a PSR of “N/A”, resulting in 100% win chance for their team
– The notification history now adds the most recent notifications to the top of the list
– Right clicking images for the various game mode/options on the “Join Game” notification should now close the notification properly

Release the Chipper!!! | Patch 0.3.2 – 3 Changelogs

HoN released a new hero the Chipper. There were lots of bugs that came out like funky servers and more crashes. Per Maliken, they’re doing their best to fix this . There’s an in game note that says:

We are aware of a bug associated with the experience burst from killing heroes. We are working on fixing and patching that right now. We apologize for the oversight. Thanks for everyone’s support and enjoyment of HoN. The response and popularity has been tremendous and we love trying to please our fans!


I guess we’ll be expecting a patch soon. Anyway, here’s the changelog:

– Sending a whisper to a player who is not online will now return a message indicating the player is not online

– The following changes pertain to players using “invisible” mode:

* They will now appears as “offline” if a /whois or “User Information” is done on them

* They will no longer be able to send/receive whispers, send/receive IM’s, and send buddy/clan whispers, however they will still be able to receive buddy/clan whispers.

* They will now properly see all their online buddies/clan members when logging in

– Removing yourself as a buddy now fails with an appropriate error message.

– When a buddy approves a friendship request, the person who requested it will no longer see “You are now friends with .” They will correctly see “You are now friends with .”

– Fixed right clicking a buddy to display the appropriate menu choices the first time they are clicked (instead of the second)

– Fixed Team/All chat to remember it’s previous state, so when navigating to another channel and coming back to the game lobby it will properly show the last chat type that was used

– When in the game lobby, clicking the “Send” button will now return focus to the text input

– Fixed some of the right click menu options either not appearing or not working

– Fixed banning/unbanning someone from a chat channel, it should now work properly when used

– Adding a user to your ignore list will stop all incoming buddy requests from the ignored user

– Players can only request the same person as a buddy once every 5 minutes now

– Fixed joining and leaving clan channels with long names

– IM notifications only pop up once every 2 minutes now, however the IM count and any IM conversations will still be updated real time.

– Fixed chat channels saving

– Added additional flood protection to the chat server when requesting a buddy or approving a buddy.

– Arranged matches should now be reported to clan members and buddies, but the join notification will not show a “Join Game” button, it will merely be informational

– Using a /whois or “User Info” on another player in a matchmaking game should display their information correctly now

– Implemented the community mod “Chat Textbox Improvements” for the game lobby, credit to slime73 for this contribution

* Clicking anywhere on the chat window will set focus to the text input

* Pressing escape will remove focus from the text input if it has no text, if there is text it will clear it without removing focus. You can then press escape again to remove focus

* This fixes an issue where currently focus is forced to the chat window and doesn’t allow players to use VOIP for the in the game lobby

– Fixed matchmaking epic clock ticks

fear the chiprel | another hero concept

I logged in to my Facebook account and saw an update from HoN. It seems that they have a new hero concept. Probably the skills will be taken from tinker/techies from DotA. But I really can’t confirm coz I haven’t read any news from forums and from the S2 people. I can’t wait until I see this one released. 🙂

There were 12 empty slots so I think we’ll be seeing more from S2 games this summer. As for the old heroes, you can always drop by my other blog newerthguide.blogspot.com for more HoN hero guides and strategies. BTW, some people emailed me yesterday asking why am I writing some guides and some discussions. My answer is that, I ‘ve just noticed that a lot of scrubs are playing lately. Heroes of Newerth | Good Bye Closed Beta!
